If you’re anything like me, you cannot get enough of appetizers at a dinner party. They offer the guest a way to sample so many different flavors without your palate being exhausted from one heavy or overly seasoned – or the greater sin an under the seasoned dish.
No other appetizer personifies bounty than that package of little bits of pork smashed into small casings. Then the Hillshire Farms Lil’ Smokies package. I know, for as much as we talk about homemade things on this website and the Eat & Drink It Podcast – I confess, I do love these things. And based on Hillshire Farms sales, I think you do too.
This is not my recipe, save the omission of one tablespoon of onions to a milder and a larger quantity of shallots. The shallots tend to add a little bit more texture to the dish, and of course a comforting, less powerful onion flavor.
So, if you’re interested in throwing a party with friends – try kicking up your dinner party with Lil Smokies and a little Bourbon Whiskey!
