The Perfect Unleaded Margarita

The Perfect Margarita

Cinco de Mayo rolls around each year, and it involves margaritas and Mexican food. Since the 5th of May only falls on the weekend about 28.6% (repeating of course) of the time, you and I are in luck! This version is perfectly designed to allow us all to go to work on the 6th safe and sound. Now, mind you can make this on the 6th or on the weekend and use the leaded version if you so desire.

This recipe is for one margarita, there is nothing stopping you from scaling it and making a gallon or two for a fantastic patio party for you or 100 of your favorite friends. However, this version does involve producing actually juices from fresh fruit and it’s not just as simple as flipping the top off a bottle and pouring.

It is worth the work even though it doesn’t have lead in it.

  1. Combine sugar, water in a small pot over a medium heat. Allow the mixture to just heat allowing the sugar to dissolve. Remove from the heat.
  2. Juice the lemons and measure out the amount. Stir the lemon juice and the simple syrup together in a large jar and allow to chill completely.
Margarita
  1. Measure out cactus nectar, sour mix, lime juice, and orange juice. Stir together.
  2. Run a lime wedge around your cocktail glass and then dip the rim in course salt. Add ice to the drink and stir well or shake (note this will dilute your drink). Serve the drink in the prepared glass. Garnish with a lime slice.
