Watermelon Aqua Fresca

I was first introduced to this beverage at a Mexican restaurant, in Ogden, UT. They had a refillable philosophy on this beverage – I think I drank no lie a gallon of the stuff. It balanced the spicy – and just kept refreshing my pallet.

What I found is, it with my other summer beverage of choice Sweet Tea – goes amazingly well with BBQ. Try this version at your next grill party, or BBQ social.

Watermelon Aqua Fresca

  • 16 Cups watermelon (cubed, seedless)
  • 2 Cups water
  • 2/3 cups sugar
  • 1 bunch mint (fresh)
  • 1/2 cup lime juice (fresh)
  • club soda (for an adult version, you can replace with vodka)
  • lime slices (for garnish)
  • blueberries (for garnish)


Step 1
Combine the watermelon, water, sugar and mint in a blender; puree. Pour through coarse strainer into a larger container.
Step 2
Stir in the lime juice. Place in the refrigerator and allow to chill. At least 4 hours.
Step 3
To serve - use a highball glass with ice - fill 2/3 with the watermelon mixture, then top with club soda and garnish with lime.
Step 4
Add some blueberries for some patriotic pride!
