MacCool’s Public House was a gem that we stumbled upon when Cindy and I were looking to purchase a new house. We originally were looking in DayBreak near the District in Southwest Salt Lake County. We had been looking at several homes and this place was there in the District shopping center.

Looking at the menu we discovered there were a few other locations and one, in Layton Utah. Well, as things worked out – we purchased our new home in Layton. We have been semi-regular patrons of the Layton location and we love this place. Here are a few dishes you must try (note we get them every time we go):

Lamb Ribs:

LambRibs

Folk’s these are amazing. They are grilled and then sauced with their house BBQ sauce and then doused with blue cheese dressing. You will find your self licking the plate getting every bit of scrumptious, delectable sauce. My 9 year old son now devours these with us. 12 the large appetizer, just isn’t enough.

Buffalo Shepherd’s Pie:

This isn’t a traditional Shepherd’s pie with ground meat – it has a zesty buffalo sausage with the traditional fixings – however, one of the wait staff suggested adding a fried egg with the same house BBQ sauce to take it over the top.

The addition was right on point. I highly recommend that you get these two dishes when you go there. Here are some others that we enjoy as well:

  • Bangers & Mash: Char-grilled sausage and mashed potatoes topped with caramelized onions. $9.60
  • Dubliner Steak Salad: Char-grilled tender steak filet on mixed greens with blue cheese.  A Man’s Salad: $12.99
  • Corned Beef Special Sandwich: Corned Beef with Russian Dressing and coleslaw on rye $9.99
  • Blue Cheese Bacon Burger: Classic 1/2 pound buyer with melted crumbles of blue cheese $11.50
